Bush and Beach Adventure
African Insight specialises in experiential travel also referred to “travelling with a purpose”.
This programme is aimed at travellers who want more than the traditional safari game viewing holiday. Our first destination is Somkhanda Game Reserve where African Insight operates a wildlife conservation experience that involves guests, interns and volunteers in the science of wildlife and conservation. The middle section is a more traditional Big 5 Safari Experience into Tembe Elephant Park. The last destination is in southern Mozambique where guests get to enjoy a relaxing or action packed time with a variety of experiences.
Transfer to Somkhanda Game Reserve
Transport leaves Durban King Shaka Airport at 11h00. Accommodation and airport transfer can be arranged for clients arriving too late to make the departure time. An optional Durban cultural tour can also be arranged.
Days 2 – 4:
Wildlife Conservation Experience
Our three-day programme on Somkhanda is flexible depending on the time of the year and what research / conservation projects are happening. The day’s programmes start at sunrise with coffee and a light snack before heading off on either a bush walk or a wildlife monitoring activity. We return to camp for a hearty brunch at 10h30, followed by a rest period to enjoy the quietness of the camp or the refreshing swimming pool.
Tembe Elephant Park
After our usual (but shortened) morning programme followed by breakfast we depart for Tembe Elephant Park (2-hour drive). After checking to our accommodation we relax before an afternoon game drive followed by dinner and drinks.
Days 6 – 9:
Ponta d Oura
Before departing Tembe we enjoy an early morning game drive and breakfast. Ponta d Oura, which means "point of gold", is a quaint little village in southern Mozambique just 8km from the South African border. Characterised by beautiful beaches, dune forests, awesome diving and ever stretching deep blue seas.

After a hearty breakfast, we pack up and depart on the return trip to Durban.
