Overview

On this trip we will cover approximately 2000km of some of the wildest and most spectacular parts of Southern Africa.  Starting off with one night in Okahanja which is located just outside of Windhoek, where you will relax and recover from your long-haul flight.  Your hosts (African Insight) will arrive by road and meet you at Windhoek Airport  with the transport for this trip.  The route takes us via Brandberg White Lady Lodge and the fascinating Brandberg Mountain where we may have the opportunity of seeing highly endangered desert adapted elephant that roam the area which is not a national park,  and then on to the Etosha National Park, which is Namibia’s flag ship for conservation and wildlife heritage.  Etosha is unique both ecologically and historically and is definitely a “bucket list” destination for wildlife safari enthusiasts.  We then head along the Caprivi Strip which is an interesting piece of land (and history) that connects the dry land of Namibia with the Zambezi River.  The trip ends with two nights at the Victoria Falls one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

Activities

Days 1 & 2: Victoria Falls

You will be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation.  You are booked for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

The Zambezi Waterfront is the perfect place to stay as it is centrally located, yet affordable. Only 4km from the areas main attraction, The Victoria Falls, the resort is ideally positioned to take advantage of the many activities that are on offer in the area.

Days 3 & 4: Chobe Botswana

Today we start the journey east and cross the border into Botswana.  It is a short distance, however, there is no telling how long it will take to get through the border.

Chobe is a bucket-list destination where we spend 2 nights allowing a full day to enjoy the highlights. Our camp is well known for its waterhole that is regularly frequented by the elephant. Our programme here includes a morning river cruise on the Chobe River and in the afternoon a game drive with local guides into the Chobe Game Reserve.

Days 5 & 6: Caprivi and Kavango River

This is a long day so an early start is necessary.  Soon into the journey, we cross the border into Namibia and the Caprivi panhandle.  As you will see later in the trip the landscape of this region is completely different to the rest of the country.  The region is blessed with high rainfall and thus has more agriculture and a higher population density.

Day 7: En route to Etosha

Another long day and early start to get closer to Etosha. Turning south we notice the landscape changes dramatically – drier and less populated.

Our overnight destination is a private guest farm, nestled amongst chalky plains with islands of Makalani palms towering the sky and acacia thickets wrapped with endless grasslands.

Days 8 & 9: Etosha National Park

After breakfast we depart for Etosha, at 22,270 km² it is the flagship of Namibia's national Parks.  Not only is Eshotsa famous for its iconic landscape but also for its wildlife.  This park is in the top 5 national parks to visit in Africa and is home to Lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, elephant, black rhino, giraffe, gemsbok, kudu, and massive herds of springbok, wildebeest, zebra and much more.

Days 10 & 11: Brandberg and Damaraland

Today we drive west into north/central region of Namibia, known as Damaraland. The landscape changes to a rock desert cut by dry sandy riverbeds.  This is home to the Damara tribe and the last remaining populations of desert-adapted elephants and rhino.  These magnificent endangered megaherbivores are not living in a protected national park but are living alongside the tribe's people making it one of the most unique areas in southern Africa.

Days 12 & 13: Okahanja/Windhoek

On the final leg of our exploration as we make our way towards Windhoek, the capital city, stopping just 70km short of it for our last night at Okahanja.  We enjoy our final night together with a farewell dinner.
